The Institute relies on the industries to serve the regional economy, adheres to building the Institute with characteristics and talents, and exerts its experience in running school in the rail transit industry for more than 60 years, thus forming a specialty cluster focusing on the specialties and specialty cluster covered by the two major industries of railway transportation and urban rail transit and supplemented by the related majors such as power technology, civil engineering and construction, equipment manufacturing, and electronic information.
The Institute recruits students from all over China. It has more than 12,600 full-time students and at present, there are 10 secondary colleges and departments including the College of Transportation and the College of International Transportation (China-Russian cooperative educational institution) with a total of 37 majors in higher vocational education. The Institute has a powerful teaching staff and complete advanced training facilities.
Since 2014, the Institute has made great efforts to promote international exchanges and cooperation. It has carried out substantive cooperation with Russia and Thailand in running school. It has organized seminars for railway technical educators from the countries along the Belt and Road and carried out training for localized talents of the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway in Kenyan. The Institute includes international exchanges and cooperation into the medium and long-term planning, vigorously promotes the construction of the faculty in “bilingual” and “international Chinese education”, and intensifies the construction of international education and teaching conditions. All these have laid a good foundation and the Institute has been awarded the title “Top 50 Asia-Pacific Vocational Institutes with International Influence”.
