The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering has six majors: railway vehicles, EMU maintenance technology, mechatronics technology, urban rail transit electromechanical technology, machinery manufacturing and automation, railway construction and road maintenance machinery manufacturing & maintenance. It has owned 23 experiment and training rooms: simulation training room for vehicle braking system maintenance, vehicle electrical training room, vehicle brake training room, vehicle air conditioning training room, railway vehicle bogie inspection and training field, freight car inspection and training field, passenger car inspection and training field, railway vehicle maintenance VR training room, EMU maintenance simulation training room, diesel engine disassembly training room, fitter training room, hydraulic and pneumatic training room, machine tool electrical equipment maintenance training room, programmable controller training room, CAD/CAM training room, mechanics laboratory, 3D printing training room, mechanical processing training room, numerical control simulation training room, and numerical control equipment maintenance training room.
The teachers in this School have high academic degrees, are of reasonable structure and have rich practical experience. There are 50 faculty members, including 13 professors and associate professors, 1 senior engineer, 1 senior experimenter and 20 lecturers. The teachers receiving postgraduate education or above account for 74.3% of the total number of teachers, among whom the “double-position teachers” account for 82.8%. Each year, a certain number of teachers are selected to participate in national and provincial training programs and corporate training.
The School always attaches great importance to cultivating the comprehensive quality of students, strives to improve their vocational skills, and vigorously promotes the “double certificate” system. It focuses on teaching students to be innovative and encourages students to actively participate in various competitions. Since 2008, the students of this School have won more than 40 awards in various national, provincial and municipal skills competitions, including 2 first prizes, 12 second prizes and 9 third prizes at the national level, and 3 special prizes, 1 first prize, 7 second prizes, and 6 third prizes at the provincial level.
With the purpose of cooperation with enterprises to do education together, the School has established teaching internship bases in more than ten institutions and enterprises such as Xi’an Railway Bureau and Xi’an Metro. It has co-authored 5 teaching materials with enterprises and regularly conducts employee training for enterprises. In the past five years, the School has maintained an employment rate of above 96%, making contribution to the industry and local economic construction.
